Energy Saving Certificates
Your energy savings are worth money.
Every kWh you stop consuming generates a certificate with real market value. Regulated by MITECO and backed by RD 36/2023.
What is an ESC
A digital certificate with real value
An ESC (Energy Saving Certificate) is an official digital document that certifies that an energy efficiency upgrade has generated real, measurable savings.
Each certificate equals 1 kWh of verified annual savings. And it has economic value because energy companies are legally required to purchase them.
- Official digital document
- 1 ESC = 1 kWh saved
- With real economic value
- Valid for up to 3 years

Validity: 3 years
From issuance (or until 1 January 2031)
The origin
Why ESCs exist
European Energy Efficiency Directive
The European Union requires its member states to reduce energy consumption. Spain transposed this directive through RD 36/2023, creating the ESC system.
Obligated Subjects
Major energy retailers are legally obligated to demonstrate energy savings every year. Failure to do so exposes them to multi-million euro penalties.
Your savings have a buyer
To meet their quota, Obligated Subjects purchase ESCs. Each certificate attests to real savings they can present to MITECO.
Obligated Subjects don't buy ESCs by choice — they buy them by legal obligation. That is what guarantees your savings have value.
Eligible sectors
Which measures generate ESCs?
The official MITECO catalogue includes 114 measures across 5 sectors. If you have carried out (or plan to carry out) an energy upgrade, it very likely qualifies for ESCs.

The process
From upgrade to income, step by step
CAE Market handles the entire process for you. All you need is to have completed (or be completing) an energy efficiency upgrade.
You carry out an energy upgrade
You install a heat pump, replace windows, improve insulation...
CAE Market analyses and calculates your savings
We evaluate your measure and estimate the ESCs it can generate.
An accredited verifier validates the savings
An ENAC-accredited body verifies that the savings are real.
The ESC is issued and registered
The certificate is recorded in the official MITECO registry.
It is sold at the best price
We negotiate directly with Obligated Subjects to obtain the best price.
Already carried out an upgrade a while ago?
ESCs have 3 years of retroactive validity. If your upgrade was recent, you can still monetise it.
The market
Demand that grows every year
The savings quotas that Obligated Subjects must meet increase by law every year. This means there is more demand for ESCs on the market each year, and more value for your savings.

Royal Decree that establishes the energy saving certificate system in Spain.
Orden TED/845/2023
Approves the catalogue of standardised measures and calculation sheets.
MITECO
Ministry for the Ecological Transition, supervisor of the system.
ENAC Verifiers
Bodies accredited by the National Accreditation Entity to validate savings.
